Playing to Win

The bridges of Venice rearrange

themselves in my dreams

To meet the need for a long straight

here, or 3-of-a kind there

When we play our games

I tell you the points doint count when I’m mad

Unless I win, then you,

With your blue eyes and kind heart, say

Count them, if it’ll make you happy

I search the limits of your love

Our happiness and discontent

Find the rounds that count double

The corners of my heart that hold anger

The conditions that play against

your affection

I’m learning the map of your mind

To play better

With you

And all that you have learned

About how to treat a woman or wear a suit

How the rules you were taught you’ve changed

And I come to the table with my own

So maybe we can agree on this:

What Winning Means

And what makes a house a home

And to not slam doors

And when all the cards are down

No matter what, kisses

So that way, and always

We both win
